When looking at this house during the open house, I loved how they already had two cabinets installed into the laundry closet.
After using the laundry room (almost daily) for 8 months, I realized that the cabinets were a waste of space.
The only things that I kept in the cabinets was laundry detergent and bleach. I didn’t need to keep two cabinets for just those two things.
What I really wanted in this laundry closet was a place to put our laundry baskets.
Currently, our laundry baskets sit on the floor of our bedroom closet. They are in the way and so I was looking for a spot to move our dirty clothes to.

To truly get a feel for the amount of useable space that you do have, first remove everything on the walls.
With the help of my husband, we took down these two cabinets and wire shelf in five minutes.
TIP: Make sure you have the appropriate drill bit to remove the screws from the cabinets. (I had to make a quick trip to Lowes before we could start.)

3. Create a budget
If you live with someone or share finances with a partner, be sure to included them in the decisions.
I am the one who does all of the laundry in our home so I had a little bit more say than my husband but I still wanted him to be happy with the end result and how much money we would be investing in it.

5. Paint the room a fresh color
TIP: What mood do you want the space to feel like? Calm? Energetic? Cozy? Dramatic? Monochromatic?
Since I am doing laundry almost every day, I wanted the space to feel bright and energetic. I love blue and this Blue Azores color was a great blend of being a deep color but also being energetic. I didn’t want anything gray because our whole house is already painted gray.
6. Install new shelving
TIP: Make sure that your shelf brackets can hold up the weight of your dirty clothes and baskets.
I bought these brackets because two of these brackets can hold up to 80lbs.
7. Add clean laundry baskets
TIP: Do you want solid baskets or ones with a see through design?
I chose solid colored baskets to hide all of the colors of our clothing. If I decided to go with white see through baskets, the closet might look messy and visually chaotic.
