the before

The previous owners left their curtains rods and curtains so I just used them for the past 7 months. After looking at these windows and the large amount of empty space above the window, I decided to change it.

Our ceilings are 9 feet tall so, 9 feet x 12 inches = 108 inches.

I bought a two-pack of 108-inch curtains at Tuesday Morning for only $30!

Standard curtains normally come in these lengths: 84 inches, 96 inches, and 108 inches.

Who does this benefit?

This curtain hack is helpful for those who small rooms, small spaces, and those who are selling their homes.

When you’re selling your home, you want your home to appear bigger, more open concept, and light and airy.

Bringing the curtains up to the ceiling complements the view of the windows and creates an illusion of a bigger space.

the after

Since the longer curtains have more fabric, they are heavier and need more support.

Use drywall anchors to secure the curtains rod brackets into the wall.

I drilled the new curtain rod brackets 4 inches below the ceiling so that the curtains would just lightly lay on the ground.

what effect does this change have?

Raising the curtains up to the ceiling creates a floor-to-ceiling focal point.

The curtains bring the eye from the furniture up to the ceiling.

When you have vertical lines in your space, the eye tricks you into thinking that the room is bigger than it really is.
