the before

  1. remove all of your summer decorations

I left the wicker basket to the left of the fireplace because that is where I hide all of our tv cables and cords.

(For another hack to hide your tv cables and cords, check out how I originally hid these items in a video tutorial and blog post.)

    2. Dust the fireplace and wipe down the hearth

For some reason, spiders can get inside our home through the chimney and I always find spider webs on the fireplace hearth.

    3. Put a picture of autumn on your tv

I found this picture for free at unsplash.com.

For our Samsung Frame TV, the dimensions you need are 3840 pixels x 2160 pixels.

4. add pumpkins to the hearth

I found these large pumpkins at Aldi for $4 each! Such a deal, so I bought 4 for the fireplace and 4 for the front door.

Because they are large, I placed these traditional orange pumpkins on the outer edges of the hearth. I didn’t want to block the birchwood laying on the fireplace rack.

No two pumpkins are alike but I tried to make these 4 pumpkins mirror each other with symmetry.

5. Fill a glass vase with cotton stems

Place it on either side of the fireplace.

I chose the left side because I knew that I wanted the anchor piece to be the natural grass on the right side.

6. Add large grass to a vase

I found this large natural grass in the fake flower section at Hobby Lobby.

Not sure if it’s fake or real but it does have a small hint of scent to it. Not a bad smell.

The grass was about a foot taller than the mantel so I cut a foot off the bottom to lower the height of the grass.

I wanted the items on the mantel to be the focus and with the grass being so tall originally, it looked distracting.

So my suggestion is to trim the grass so it just reaches the top of the mantel.

7. Place natural rattan pumpkins on the mantel

I found a set of three rattan pumpkins at Hobby Lobby so I picked up two packs.

For small items like this, I thought that they looked better centered on the mantel.

8. Use fake flower arrangements on the ends of the mantel

First, these fake flower vases helped hold up the wood bead garland, and second, they added symmetry to the mantel.

I used vases that I already had and fake flowers that I used to decorate last fall.

9. Hang up a wood bead garland

I bought two of these wood bead garlands at Hobby Lobby during their fall sale this year.

The ends have loops so you can secure them to the mantel with either a small nail or place something heavy on top of them.

For the right vase, I used a clear push pin to secure the garland and on the left side, I just placed the vase on top since it was heavy enough to keep it in place.

10. Add mini pumpkins in front of the large pumpkins on the hearth

These small pumpkins aren’t a big detail in the fall decorated fireplace but I had some laying around so I wanted to include them.

If you don’t have mini pumpkins, it isn’t totally necessary that you go out and purchase them.

11. Place two chairs in front of the fireplace

We already had these two accent chairs in the living room so I just angled them in front of the TV to create a welcoming and inviting scene.

Here is the link for the accent chairs.
